The Beau’s Holiday Gift Guide 2018
It’s that time of year again, time to begin planning your holiday shopping list! While this is a beautiful season, let’s be honest—the shopping can be absolutely brutal. The drive has been completely taken over by holiday music, and when you do finally get to the mall, you’re met with a completely packed parking lot without a free spot in site.
But never fear, the Beau’s Holiday Gift Guide is here! We’ve put together a list of awesome gifts that you don’t even have to leave your house to get.
Here’s our nine favourite gift ideas for those closest to you this holiday season.
1. The sweater to keep you warm
Let’s face it: you need to keep warm this winter. What better way to do that than by grabbing our brand-new Pullover Hoodie? It’s perfect for keeping you warm on those brisk winter strolls.
Want a more classic look? Any of our Crewneck Sweaters are a stylish way to stay cozy during those sub-zero mornings.
2. The box for your craft-beer fan
What was the best part of this year’s first snowfall? The 2018 Winter Mix wasn’t far behind it! With one bottle of Beau’s award-winning Lug Tread, and three other unique releases, the Winter Mix is the perfect gift for this holiday season.
Treat your favourite craft-beer fan, share it with those closest to you, or enjoy it on one of those beautiful winter nights – there’s no wrong way to experience the Beau’s Winter Mix!
You can get the Winter Mix in the Beau’s Taproom, LCBO, and The Beer Store. You can also find it on beaus.ca for Ottawa home delivery!
3. The album for the music lover
Remember that drive to the mall we talked about before? You know, the one filled with the same holiday playlist on every station? Why not drive around in style this season, listening to Joel Plaskett’s latest album, Solidarity.
Joining forces with his father, Bill, the East Coast singer-songwriter describes the album as “a touch of the traditional, mixed in with the new, and a lot of the unexpected, arrived at through experimentation.” Some of our favourite tracks: Dragonfly, Blank Cheque, Help Me Somebody Depression Blues, and On Down the River
In case you missed it, we recently sat down with Joel in the Beau’s Lagered Tale Podcast, to discuss his songwriting process, touring, upcoming projects, and much more!
4. The essential toques
An absolute necessity for surviving the winter is the toque, and have we got some great ones for you. Whether you’re looking for the quintessential knitted classic, or the retro Ski-doo toque, you’ll be sure to stay warm (and stylish) this season.
They also make great stocking stuffers!
5. The bottle for that special occasion
Everyone’s had champagne on New Year’s Eve, so why wouldn’t you want to pop something New…Lang Syne? Described as the “Champagne for Beer Lovers”, New Lang Syne is a Belgian Tripel made with champagne yeast, that has been aged in white wine barrels, and bottle conditioned.
This golden, effervescent beer comes in a corked champagne bottle, and is the perfect alternative for those who want something more than traditional bubbly. Available now in the LCBO and Beau’s Taproom.
Hint: Want to go above and beyond? Try making a New Lang Syne Mimosa! Pour half a glass of New Lang Syne into a Champagne flute and fill the other half with orange juice. If you’d like to add a bit of extra sweetness, add some maraschino cherries (with some of the yummy liquid they sit in)!
6. The recipes for those holiday dinners
If you’re like us, you’re tired of Cousin Andrew getting all the praise for an (admittedly) delicious meal, while all you brought was veggies and dip. Well, prepare to blow Andrew out of the holiday potluck water with the help of Anthony Rose and his new cookbook, The Last Schmaltz.
Chef and co-owner of restaurants like Rose and Sons, Fat Pasha, Bar Begonia, and Madame Boeuf, Anthony Rose has worked with Michelin-starred chefs in San Francisco and New York. Anthony provides you with an inside look at some of his most scrumptious dishes that are sure to impress. Take that, Andrew!
Bonus: be sure to keep an eye out for our interview with Anthony on the new Beau’s Lagered Tales Podcast.
7. The stylish accessories for a good cause
We’re proud to support Ottawa’s Operation Come Home (OCH), an organization whose mandate is to support at-risk youth with programs focusing on education, employment, and personal growth.
ArtWorks is a program that provides the opportunity to develop creative skills, with youth working on creating jewellery, customizable belts, and dog collars using recycled bike tires and tubes.
You can also support OCH by using our Ottawa home delivery service, Buy Your Beau’s Online (BYBO.ca), with each delivery fee being donated to the organization.
8. The must-try everyone wants
The newest release from Halcyon Barrel House, you will be lured to the sour side with this approachable, lightly tart, and refreshing sour, Echo Chamber.
While dry-hopped sours are a relative newcomer in modern brewing, Halcyon is patiently rooted in traditional methods of mixed fermentation in barrels and bottle conditioning.
You can find Echo Chamber at select LCBOs, or in the Beau’s Taproom (along with Halcyon’s exclusive releases).
9. The ultimate date night for a good cause
We’re super excited to be partnered with Community Food Centres Canada and their annual dinner series, Chefs for Change—four amazing nights of food at Toronto’s Propeller Coffee Co., featuring a unique culinary collaboration by top chefs from across Canada.
It’s the perfect excuse to brave the cold for a fun, cozy night out with friends, and a way to support empowering programs that change lives in low-income communities through food.
