Sergeant Stripes is a malty export stout. This 7.9% ABV stout is as dark as a winter sky over the Canadian Shield. With a moderate perceived bitterness to complement its roasted malt warmth, Sergeant Stripes is engineered to be a well-rounded stout.

History & Style

Dating back to the 17th century, Britons brewed big, export-ready versions of their stouts to a high gravity in order to endure long journeys to destinations afar, such as the Caribbean or Russia. Sergeant Stripes Export Stout gets its name from the paint-job applied to some late 20th century Canadian freight trains.

Tasting Notes

Sergeant Stripes pours opaque black with a thick tan foam. Roast barley, mocha and a touch of molasses are evident in the aroma. The flavour features intense dark, roasted malt elements, a medium bitterness, full body and a light fruitiness. The long warm finish offers residual dark chocolate and espresso notes.

Food Pairings

Stir-fried pepper steak, dry-rubbed Jamaican jerk chicken, blackened fish tacos, chocolate mousse.
