Oktoberfest 2017 will tap Rheostatics + Beau’s beer “Parliament of Trees”

Fans of Canadian rock scene veterans Rheostatics will have an extra reason to grab their tickets to Beau’s Oktoberfest 2017. Not only will the band be headlining the all-Canadian musical line-up on the Saturday night of the upcoming two-day festival, but they have also collaborated with Beau’s to create a special beer for the occasion. Called Parliament of Trees, the beer was named after a line from Rheostatics’ song, “Northern Wish”.

To create this one-of-a-kind beer, the team at Beau’s met with Rheostatics founding member Dave Bidini to brainstorm recipe ideas. “Finding warmth in cold places is a big sort of thing with us,” explains Bidini, characterizing his band’s tone while brainstorming ideas. The resulting beer is billed as an autumn warmer, evoking the sensory experience of smoky campfires, big piles of leaves, and all things dry and crackly when the summer fades away.

The 6 % ABV Parliament of Trees pours a deep mahogany, and features notes of raisins, plums, fruits and dark malt, with impressions of caramel sweetness. A portion of the pale ale malts were smoked using oak, hickory and cherrywood chips, adding a whiff of campfire smoke to the creation. “A lot of [brewing beer] is dreaming up something delicious, and executing that dream. It’s kind of like art in a way,” explains Bidini, who travelled to the Vankleek Hill craft brewery to brew the beer with the Beau’s team. Parliament of Trees is part of Beau’s Ottawa 2017 series – a portion of proceeds from Parliament of Trees will be donated to Lake Ontario Waterkeeper (www.waterkeeper.ca).

Oktoberfest 2017 will take place this year September 22 and 23, at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds. Rheostatics headline the Oktoberfest Main Stage on Saturday, at 8 pm. Other artists performing at this year’s Oktoberfest include Stars, John K. Samson and Winter Wheat, Planet Smashers, Dead Tired, and many more.

The festival, which is Beau’s signature fundraising event, will feature plenty of Bavarian-inspired cuisine from local restaurants, as well as daytime entertainment from Canada’s Polka King, Walter Ostanek. Parliament of Trees itself headlines a creative line-up of new beers from Beau’s, as well as more than 50 different beers from guest breweries.

Those wishing to get a taste of Parliament of Trees a few weeks in advance of Oktoberfest can pick up one of a limited quantity of bottles from the Beau’s tap room beginning today. For tickets and information on Beau’s Oktoberfest please visit www.beausoktoberfest.ca.

Beau’s Brewing Company is the Official Beer Partner of Ottawa 2017 and Beau’s Lug Tread is the Official Beer for Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations in the nation’s capital. In addition, Ottawa 2017 is proud to promote Beau’s Oktoberfest as a premier event and a not-to-be-missed activity during the sesquicentennial year.
