Great Planes
Bière de Garde • 7.0% •Great Planes Bière de Garde was conceived collaboratively with Flying Bison Brewing Company from Buffalo, New York, who specialize in brewing traditional style beers that pay homage to Buffalo’s history of aviation manufacturing.
History & Style
Bières de Garde (“beers to store”) originated in the northern part of France, just west of Belgium, where they were traditionally brewed in farmhouses, then stored, during the colder months. Come summertime, the beer would be given to thirsty farmhands as both nourishment and reward for their hard work. Compared to its Belgian counterpart, the Saison, Bières de Garde are malt-forward and sweet.
Tasting Notes
Great Planes pours hazy amber-orange with a white foam. The aroma has complex mix of red licorice and fruit notes, such as cherry and strawberry. The flavour is also fruity and lightly peppery. The finish is dry and warming.
Food Pairings
Roasted pork loin with garlic and chestnut stuffing, mushroom confit with thyme and olive oil, turnip purée with nutmeg and brown butter, Livarot or Pavin cheese, strawberry shortcake.
