Beau’s + k-os announce details for new beer called “Golden Vox”
Rye pale lager to be released June 13 at Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival, as part of the 2015 Collaboration Nation contest
OTTAWA – (June 4, 2015) With just over a week until it is released at the Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival on June 13, Beau’s Brewery has announced a few more details about the new beer they have conceived and brewed collaboratively with Canadian hip hop artist k-os. The beer will be called Golden Vox – a nod to k-os’ multi-award-winning music career to-date – and is an imaginative fusion of styles, a rye pale lager.
The recipe for this pale-golden beer is a blend of organic rye and barley malts, and features 100% Ontario-grown organic hops. This hybrid beer style blends the citrusy hop character of an American Pale Ale with the spicy elements of rye malt, and adds the signature crisp finish of a lager. Aging on rye-whiskey-soaked oak adds a kiss of subtle complexity to this balanced, 6% ABV beer. k-os travelled to the Vankleek-Hill-based brewery in May to help the Beau’s brew team create the first limited-edition batch of Golden Vox.
Golden Vox will be revealed at the Session Toronto Craft Beer Festival on Saturday June 13. The festival, which kicks off Ontario Craft Beer Week across the province, takes place at Yonge and Dundas Square that day over two tasting sessions, one daytime and one evening. Both Beau’s co-founder Steve Beauchesne and k-os will be at the Beau’s booth during the festival to pour samples and talk about the new beer with Session attendees.
In addition to the chance to taste a wide variety of different beers from Ontario craft brewers, Session Toronto also hosts the Collaboration Nation contest. The contest allows attendees of the festival to cast their vote for their favourite “Collaboration Nation” beer, which are brewed by Ontario craft breweries teamed up with a celebrity. The top collaborative beer of the day, as tallied by total votes, wins a future spot on LCBO shelves.
Beau’s won Collaboration Nation in 2013 with The Tom Green Beer!, and took an honorable mention in 2014 with Margaret Atwood/Graeme Gibson’s MaddAddamites NooBroo. Beau’s 2015 partner, k-os, is several-times a Juno award winner and a veteran of the Canadian hip hop scene. The beer was conceived through multi-day brainstorming sessions, which led to a brewing concept that ties back to the core elements of k-os’ music.
