S2 E1: Lagered Tales, presented by Beau’s
Pouzza Fest, The Planet Smashers, Stomp Records, Cheshire Cat Pub, Good Time I.P.A. and the Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada
Ah, it’s good to be back — and just in time for the May long weekend!
In our very first feature interview of season two, we catch up with Matt Smasher, a fellow whose name you may not recognize, but you’re definitely familiar with his work. Smasher is the guitarist and lead vocalist for the ska punk band The Planet Smashers, the president of Stomp Records, and has a key role in bringing you Pouzza Fest, Montreal’s Punk Festival, happening May 17th to 19th, 2019. It’s presented in part by Beau’s! Get your passes here.
Our own Josh Gottlieb, signature events coordinator, and Matt chat about a new Smashers album, how running an indie record label has changed in the streaming age (will mp3s die out faster than the CD did?), what makes Pouzza Fest truly special, and the relationship between independent music and craft beer.
Next up, we let the cat out of the bag. Jen visits Dustin Therrien from Carp’s best-kept secret, the Cheshire Cat Pub, and she brings along some Good Time I.P.A., our new session I.P.A. at Beau’s. (What is session I.P.A., anyway?)
Jen and Dustin discuss the craft beer scene, pub food (and why Good Time IPA pairs so well with it), and have a bit of a heart-to-heart as representatives of a family-run brewery and one of its longtime establishments. It’s good stuff. You’ll also hear why our co-host Denis is not happy at all with this segment.
This episode’s final segment hits close to home. We hear from one of our sales representatives at Beau’s, Judith, about the touching origin story behind the annual Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada. We also hear from Tara Frotten, Community Engagement Associate at Ovarian Cancer Canada, about how you can get involved, and what signs and symptoms to look for.
The Beau’s 5K for Ovarian Cancer Canada has raised $115,000 to date. These funds enable important programs that support awareness and research to address ovarian cancer and to help ensure that the women with this disease may live fuller, better, and longer lives. The fifth annual run is happening Saturday, July 6, in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. Find more info here.
We’d like to wish our listeners a happy May long weekend. In this episode’s events roundup, you’ll hear about the following fun happenings you can attend:
