The Beau’s Guide to Canada Day
The team here at Beau’s is just as patriotic as you are, but we also like to do things a little differently. Let’s say we like to zig where others may zag.
That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to making the very most of your Canada 151 celebrations. (Plus it’s a nice opportunity to outline all of the cool things we have available at the moment. #SummerofLug, anyone?)
Check it out. We’ve rounded up a tonne (note the Canadian spelling) of things to do this Canada Day. Just don’t do ’em all at once.
-
- Make friends with people who own a cottage.
You’re not being a total third wheel — you’re bringing the beer! Charm your way into a relaxing Canada Day by the lake. Get out into the woods — the farther away from the downtown core of your nearest city, the better.
- Buy a child-sized pool and host your own pool party.
If you can’t escape the city, bring a mini-lake to you! No-one said the pool at the party has to accommodate all of your guests. There’s no need to break the bank and use thousands of gallons of water. Just fill up a kids pool and take turns. - DIY: Summer of Lug Beer Can Chicken!
1) Load up on 473 ml cans of Lug Tread
2) Open 473 ml can of Lug
3) Drink it.
4) Pour that other beer that your bud left in your fridge on the May Long Weekend into your empty Lug can. The Lug Tread is strictly for drinkin’.
5) Put it in a chicken, bum-side.
6) Cook beer can chicken on the BBQ!
7) Enjoy with another 473 ml can of Lug. - Get your fill of partying on June 30th.
Join us at the brewery in Vankleek Hill for our #SummerofLug party! We’ve got buses waiting. It’ll be so much fun that you’ll snooze right through the real Canada Day festivities.
Bonus: It’s our 12th birthday at Beau’s! - If you’re in the Ottawa area, check out the fireworks from across the river!
It’s a great alternative for the crowd-averse. Setting up outside the Canadian Museum of History on the Gatineau side of the Ottawa River will give you a great view of the show, while providing an easier entry and exit. Remember: the fireworks show on Parliament Hill is at 10:00 p.m.
- DIY: The Full Time I.P.A. Chipotle-Mango Salsa
Check it out. You and your friends will probably work up an appetite with all of that Canada Day partying. Dry tortilla chips are nobody’s favourite. Get prepared. This chipotle-mango dip is delicious.
- Stand out in the sea of red with some bright retro threads!
We’d never tell you not to wear red on Canada Day, but maybe throw in some pink, purple, turquoise and yellow into the mix.
- Stay home!
Seriously. Put on the Beau’s x Spotify #SummerofLug Playlist — because you can only hear so much Kim Mitchell and Barenaked Ladies in one day — fill your fridge with Beau’s Hopfenlager, De Berry’s Treasure, The Summer Mix, Tom Green Summer Stout, Halcyon Infinity Mirror, Full Time I.P.A. and Lug Tread — or your favourite Canadian craft brews — and invite your friends over!
- Whatever you do, do not drink and drive.
This applies year-round — and should go without saying — but do not get behind the wheel, and always drink responsibly.
- Make friends with people who own a cottage.
