Halcyon Barrel House expands distribution of Curse of Knowledge, an organic farmhouse saison

Halcyon Barrel House has bottled Curse of Knowledge, its organic farmhouse saison, for wider distribution in Ontario and Québec. Curse of Knowledge is a barrel-fermented, blended farmhouse saison with brett. Spice and more delicate herbal, fruity and floral elements are rounded by its relationship with wine. It’s almost magically both effortlessly drinkable, and assumingly complex. Previously available on draft and from the brewery only, it will now be available in 500 ml bottles at retailers in Ontario and Québec.

Brewmaster Bryce McBain describes the recipe for Curse of Knowledge as “inspired by the farmhouse saisons of old.” He adds: “It’s brewed with a house blend of several saison yeast and brett strains, and aged in red wine barrels for six months before blending. We dry-hop with two French hop varieties, strisselspalt and mistral.”

Curse of Knowledge pours golden and slightly hazy, with ample foam. Spice and herbal aromas come together with fruity notes of pear, rounded by a wine-like element. Its mild saison flavours are spicy and floral, with tanginess, restrained bitterness and more wine. The body is light with ample carbonation adding to the fullness of the beer. The finish is bone-dry and mildly bitter with lingering tannins.

Previously available on draft or from the brewery only, Curse of Knowledge now joins dry-hopped sour Echo Chamber from Halcyon Barrel House as a widely available bottle release in Ontario and Québec. Its expected on-shelf date in both provinces is March 14.
