Try it this weekend: The Saison Negroni

We’ve whipped up the perfect late summer drink for fans of cocktails that are nice and refreshing, but also possess a satisfying bitterness.

The Saison Negroni combines the basic elements of the classic Italian apéritif, the Negroni, with our award-winning snappy and spicy Saison. The result is a bitter beer cocktail that will impress your guests, quench your thirst, and satisfy your taste buds. It’s also quite colourful and visually appealing.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • One bottle of Beau’s Saison, from the Farm Table Series
  • A pint (or “Willi” glass)
  • Campari
  • Sweet vermouth
  • Gin (we recommend Top Shelf Distillers from Perth, Ontario)
  • Orange juice
  • An orange + a paring knife (and some matches if you’ve got some skills)
  • Ice cubes
  • A bar spoon

 

How it’s done:

  1. Fill a pint glass with ice cubes, almost all the way up. You’ll build your cocktail in the glass.
  2. Add 1/2 ounce of gin.
  3. Add 1/2 ounce of Campari.
  4. Add 1/2 ounce of sweet vermouth.
  5. Add 1/2 ounce of fresh orange juice.
  6. Fill the glass with Saison.
  7. Flame the zest of an orange twist over the cocktail (pictured below; not for novices).
  8. Stir gently with a bar spoon. Garnish with the flamed orange peel, or an orange wedge!
  9. Impress your friends and enjoy!
