Pop the cork on good times! Beau’s New Lang Syne coming soon across Canada

Champagne yeast and sparkling effervescence make this Belgian-style tripel the perfect choice for holiday celebrations

Ontario craft brewery Beau’s is releasing a 2017 version of its limited-edition holiday beer, New Lang Syne. The strong Belgian-style golden ale is wine-barrel aged and conditioned with champagne yeast to sparkling effervescence. Packaged in 750 ml bottles complete with cage and cork, it is the craft beer lover’s perfect choice for New Year’s Eve, or any holiday celebrations with friends and family.

“New Lang Syne is one of the more labour-intensive beers we make, but it’s a labour of love,” says Beau’s Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara. “A portion of it is brewed during the summer, and ages in wine barrels for several months to take on some wood and wine elements. We blend the aged portion back into some freshly brewed batches in the fall to get the barrel character just right, and then add champagne yeast when it’s packaged to allow it to carbonate naturally in the bottle. It’s a special creation, and one we are proud to bring back each year.”

Tripels originate in the Trappist breweries of Belgium. They are known for being appreciably strong, yet deliciously drinkable beers. First impressions of New Lang Syne are of lemon zest, as well as papaya and tropical fruits. A distinct wine character harmonizes with firm tannins, and French and German hop varieties provide suitable balance. A bright, sparkling mouthfeel leads into a finish that is fruity, with subtle peppery notes.

A limited-edition holiday offering, New Lang Syne will be available beginning Nov. 9 in Ontario and Québec. New Lang Syne will also be available a bit later in the festive season in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, wherever Beau’s beer is sold.
