Lavender, rosemary and thyme gruit ale “St. Luke’s Verse” available soon across Canada

Aromatic bouquet of organic botanicals present in unison as a deliciously drinkable potpourri in the latest Gruit Series release from Beau’s Brewing

St. Luke’s Verse, a lavender, rosemary and thyme gruit ale from Beau’s Brewing Co.’s Gruit Series, will soon be available in many provinces across Canada for a fall 2017 release. Brewed with an aromatic bouquet of organic botanicals, the flavours in St. Luke’s Verse present in unison as a deliciously drinkable potpourri.

Beau’s Gruit Series takes inspiration from centuries-old brewing tradition; a time before the Bavarian Purity Act of 1516 declared that all beer be made solely with barley, hops and water. In gruit ale, herbs, spices and other botanicals replace a dominant hop character, throwing the door open to experimentation. Each gruit in the series has a unique combination of ingredients and flavours.

St. Luke’s Verse is a 5.7 % ABV gruit ale that pours copper in colour, with a white foam. Intense lavender aroma is complemented by contributions of thyme and rosemary. The flavours parallel the aromas and are held together with medium-bodied malt backdrop. The finish is medium dry with echoing herbal inflections.

A recipe first brewed in 2014 to celebrate International Gruit Day, St. Luke’s Verse has been gaining popularity with craft beer fans in Ontario and Québec ever since. In fact, it was voted that same year as one of the top-four Beau’s beers of all time, and included in the 2014 Best of Beau’s mix pack. The food-like flavours in this unique herbal ale lend themselves perfectly to pairing with cheeses or dinner, or to cooking with as an ingredient.

St. Luke’s Verse will be available this fall in Ontario, Québec, British Columbia, Alberta, and New York in bottles and on tap; and in Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick on tap only at select craft-friendly establishments.
