Certified B-Corp breweries to release “BREW the CHANGE” at Craft Brewers Conference

Collaborative beer brewed by 10 B-Corp breweries with B-Corp supplied ingredients will launch at a tasting event at Goldilocks Gallery this Wednesday, May 4 in Philadelphia

(VANKLEEK HILL, ON – May 2, 2016) At the Craft Brewers Conference in Philadelphia next week, ten Certified B Corps (Benefit Corporations) will launch their collaborative beer, BREW the CHANGE. These breweries all believe that business can be a strong force for good in the world, and they’ve come together to celebrate this shared vision with a delicious beer made with B Corp certified ingredients. Certified by B Lab, these for-profit companies meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

“One of our guiding principles here at B Lab is to take our work, not ourselves seriously,” says Andy Fyfe on the Community Team at B Lab. “While it can be a challenge for business to do well and do good at the same time, these B Corp breweries and ingredients are showing us you can do both, and also have some fun together.”

The participating breweries include: Aslan Brewing (Washington), Beau’s All Natural Brewing (Ontario), Bison Brewing (California), Brewery Vivant (Michigan), Bull City Burger and Brewery (North Carolina), Hopworks Urban Brewery (Oregon), New Belgium Brewing (Colorado), North Coast Brewing (California), Persephone Brewing (British Columbia), and Picaroons Traditional Ales (New Brunswick).

“Making good beer with good people for a good cause; that’s my definition of a triple-win,” says Beau’s co-founder Steve Beauchesne about the project. “I’ve loved working with all these inspiring brewers, and hope that this becomes an ongoing way for us to promote and raise awareness for the B-Corp movement as we collectively use our businesses as a force for good.”

A subtle staging of wheat and barley malts were selected for the beer to allow ingredients from Certified B-Corp suppliers (organic honey, organic cranberry juice, organic yerba mate, and organic Chinook hops) to truly shine in this inspired, purpose-driven ale.

Ingredients include: organic honey from The African Bronze Honey Project who are committed to sustainable practice and preserving traditional heritage while creating economic opportunity for independent bee keepers and their families in Africa; organic Chinook hops from Crosby Hop Farms, one of only a handful of Salmon Safe certified hop farms in the U.S.; organic yerba mate from Guayaki, the first Fair Trade Certified yerba mate company in the world; and organic cold-pressed cranberry juice from Starvation Alley Farms, the first certified organic cranberry farm in the state of Washington.

Craft Brewers Conference attendees can try the beer at a free tasting event May 4 at Goldilocks Gallery in Philadelphia. In Ontario, Beau’s Brewery will have limited quantities of BREW the CHANGE available in bottles as of May 4, and will also feature it at select special events this spring and summer.
