Double Identity

D.I.P.A. (Double I.P.A.) • 9.0 % • Winter Mix

At 85 IBUs, Double Identity is by no means subtle. It features a double-dose of two of our favourite organic hops, Centennial and Nelson-Sauvin, with smaller additions of El Dorado and Chinook. Is the perception of extreme hoppiness strictly science, or partly sleight of hand? Like a true Double Identity, successful execution lies in getting them both just right.

History & Style

A boat-load of extra hops (a natural preservative) made India Pale Ales (I.P.A.s) historically better suited for long voyages when shipping to British soldiers stationed afar, including India. Their distinct taste caught on, and now these ales are widely known and enjoyed for their aggressively hopped aromas and flavours. D.I.P.A.s (Double I.P.A.s) are bigged up in both strength and hop character. In Double Identity, a pale ale base malt lets the hops sing out.

Tasting Notes

Double Identity pours hazy deep yellow with a billowy white foam. The aroma is intensely citrusy. The flavour is notably bitter but counterbalanced by grapefruit and pine notes. The big finish lingers with redolent hoppiness.
