Beau’s Greener Futures barrel-aged beer club launches Phase 3 this Friday

Greener Futures Project raises funds for brewery’s sustainability initiatives; new for Phase 3 is home-delivery option anywhere in Ontario

(VANKLEEK HILL – Nov. 26, 2015) Beau’s Brewery’s members-only barrel-aged beer club, Greener Futures, is re-launching this Friday, Nov. 27 for Phase 3 membership. Beau’s Brewery launched the Greener Futures Project in 2011, with the goal of raising funds earmarked specifically for sustainability improvements at the brewery. Phase 2 of the Greener Futures Project, which wrapped up in October 2015, raised $27,760.

Greener Futures members are entitled to 10 barrel-aged beers per year from Beau’s that are not available to the general public, for a membership rate of $125. New for Phase 3 will be an option to have the beer shipped bi-monthly to members anywhere in Ontario, through The Brew Box Company (beaus.thebrewbox.ca) for an additional fee. Memberships can be purchased in person at the brewery, or online at the Beau’s website (below).

The Greener Futures Project selections are 600 ml bottles of small-batch and rare blends or not-yet-released beers, each aged to varying lengths of time in a specific barrel style – eg. ice wine, bourbon, rum, etc. While aging for months or even years, the beer takes on some of the character of the barrel it rests in, resulting in a distinctive and truly hand-crafted blend.

Beau’s Greener Futures creations have twice earned bronze at the Canadian Brewing Awards, in 2013 and 2014. Phase 3 will launch with The Beer That Shall Not Be Named, a Belgian Strong Ale aged in Pinot Grigio & Sauvignon Blanc barrels for 10 months, then blended with cherries.

Phase 1 of the Greener Futures Project focused on solar energy, with the dollars raised invested in OREC (Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative) to support their ongoing efforts building solar projects in the City of Ottawa.  Funds generated in Phase 1 also paid for a three-year contract with Bullfrog power, with Beau’s choosing green electricity for 100% of its Vankleek Hill brewery operations, as well as becoming the first brewery in Canada to choose 100% green natural gas.

Phase 2 of the Greener Futures Project kicked off in November 2014, and generated an investment into waste reduction and water stewardship projects at the brewery. More details about these ongoing projects (as well as plans for Phase 3 investment) are available online at the Beau’s website: beaus.ca/beaus-greener-futures-project-factsheet.

Membership in Phase 2 of the Greener Futures Project sold out; Phase 3 memberships are also limited, and will be available on a first come, first served basis beginning Nov. 27. Included are a minimum of 10 barrel-aged beers and a special glass. Both pick-up and delivery options are now available, opening up membership to all 19+ residents of Ontario. More information about the club and signup details are available at beaus.ca/greener-futures-project.
