The Monkey’s Paw

The Monkey’s Paw is an unfiltered wheat beer, modelled after the famous witbiers (white beers) of the Louvain region of Belgium. The refreshing zesty citrus and spice character of the yeast is amplified with judicious additions of orange peel and coriander, and elderflower and hibiscus add in a delicate bouquet of floral notes to this medium-light bodied beer.

History & Style

Beau’s Pro-Am Series is a salute to homebrewers, true innovators of our craft. These beers are designed by amateur brewers, and brewed at Beau’s. The Monkey’s Paw was brewed in collaboration with Jared Carlberg, winner of the 2013 Vankleek Hill Oktoberfest Homebrew Competition. Like many Belgian styles, the roots of Witbier can be traced to the brewing traditions that originated in the monasteries of the Brussels area.

Tasting Notes

The Monkey’s Paw pours cloudy pale yellow with a billowing white head. The initial aroma is of coriander with suggestions of lemongrass and light floral notes. The flavour opens up with a salvo of zesty citrus impressions accompanied by coriander and clove. The finish is slightly tart, clean and dry.

Food Pairings

Cardamom, cilantro & clove-scented yellow lentil dal; softer washed rind cheeses; roasted asparagus, bacon- or leek-based quiche.
