Slideway

We teamed up with 2016’s Canadian Brewery of the Year, Side Launch, to create Slideway – a German-style rauch maibock – to commemorate the 2017 Canadian Brewing Awards! Slideway is fifth in a series of beers Beau’s will brew with friends across the nation to honour Ottawa 2017, a year-long celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. A portion of proceeds from sales of Slideway will go to support the Nottawasaga Lighthouse Preservation Society (http://www.nlps.info/).

History & Style:
In 1995, Matthew O’Hara joined the team at Denison’s Brewing Company, (and its founding brewmaster Michael Hancock), in brewing German-style beers at the Toronto-based brewpub. More than 20 years later, the two brewmasters O’Hara (Beau’s) and Hancock (Side Launch) reunite to reignite their tradition of brewing in the Bavarian style by creating a rauch maibock, a style of lager known for its smoky malt flavour, higher alcohol strength and tawny colour.

Tasting Notes:
Slideway pours copper with a white foam. The aroma offers a clean expression of beech wood smoke. The mouthfeel is full and velvety. Malt flavour supports the redolent-but-balanced smoke notes. Mid taste brings a touch of peppery spice. The finish is elegant and features mild lingering sweetness and savoury (yes, you guessed it) smoke.

Food Pairings:
Grilled asparagus & tomato salad, roasted pork & mushrooms with honey sauerkraut mashed potatoes, smoked cheese curds or aged parmesan, maple doughnuts or chocolate caramel popcorn.
