Hogan’s Goat

Spiced Bock • 6.9% • Wild Oats No. 15

Hogan’s Goat is a unique bock-inspired beer that has been brewed with a slight rye malt addition and adventurously spiced with peppermint, juniper, and orange peel. Offering up mingling aromas of mint and herbs, this copper-hued brew features a malty, sweet flavour that gets a pleasant cleansing lift from the addition of cooling peppermint and herbal juniper, while light orange peel adds a complementary citrus undertone.

History & Style

The Bock style originated in the 14th century in the Saxon town of Einbeck (Germany). It was later adopted by Munich brewers in the 17th century, where the regional Bavarian accent meant citizens pronounced “Einbeck” as “ein Bock” (a billy goat), and the style formally became known as Bock. To pay homage to these origins, a goat is often used on Bock labels.

Ranging from light copper to dark brown in colour, the Bock style is traditionally a malty and lightly hopped beer. Hogan’s Goat uses additional spices during aging in this interpretation of the Bock style.

Tasting Notes

Hogan’s Goat pours a bright copper shade while mingling aromas of peppermint and juniper come to attention. With a sip, the malty sweet taste is given a pleasant cleansing lift from the cooling peppermint and herbal juniper. Light orange peel adds a complementary citrus undertone to the flavour.
