Beau’s Brewery creates new pale ale for Zaphod’s 25th anniversary

“Life, the Universe and Everything” will be available for a limited time on tap at Ottawa’s live music venue Zaphod’s; fundraising event March 26 kicks off beer release and year of celebrations

(OTTAWA – Mar. 24, 2016) A new pale ale from Beau’s Brewery called “Life, the Universe and Everything” will be pouring this Saturday, March 26 at Zaphod’s live music nightclub in Ottawa, as part of Beau’s annual fundraising event Bryce Day. The live music show kicks off a limited-edition release of the beer, as well as the start of a year-long celebration by Zaphod’s (www.zaphods.ca) marking their 25th anniversary as a live music venue in Ottawa.

“Life, the Universe and Everything” is a pale ale that riffs off the inspiration for the Zaphod’s name, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series of books by Douglas Adams. At a drinkable 4.2% ABV, the ale has a hop character that offers the zing of fresh citrus flavours, with a finish of pleasant pine.

Bryce Day 2016 at Zaphod’s on March 26 has a musical lineup that includes Toronto’s The Flatliners and Ottawa’s Hell Bros, as well as Audio Visceral, fronted by Beau’s co-founder Steve Beauchesne. Proceeds from ticket sales will fund two charities: local organization For Pivot’s Sake (www.forpivotssake.ca), and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (www.llscanada.org). Bryce Day celebrates the life of Bryce Elder, a special friend of the Beauchesne family. 2014 and 2015 events raised a total of $8,600, contributing to the more than $1 million in total Beau’s has donated to charity, community groups & local arts organizations.

“With Zaphod’s kicking off its 25th year in business, we thought what better way to celebrate our relationship with the Ottawa music community than a beer collaboration with Beau’s,” says Zaphod’s Chris Poirier. “Steve and the team at Beau’s are kindred spirits – many of them have kicked out the jams onstage here at the club. They have great passion for local music, and a solid – and still growing – reputation for making beers that are both interesting and adventurous,” he adds.

A handful of tickets for the Bryce Day event on March 26 remain, and will be made available at the door. “Life, the Universe and Everything” will be served on tap at Zaphod’s for the event and while supplies last afterwards, and it will also be available for purchase in bottles from the brewery in Vankleek Hill, or for home delivery in the City of Ottawa through the BYBO service (www.bybo.ca).
