OTTAWA – In the spirit of holiday camaraderie, Eastern Ontario craft breweries Beau’s All Natural and Big Rig Brewery are releasing a new collaborative Peppermint Porter this week. The recipe was designed by Beau’s brewmaster Matthew O’Hara and Big Rig brewmaster Lon Ladell, and brewed together at Beau’s in Vankleek Hill. The limited-edition creation will be available in bottles from Beau’s beginning Thursday Dec. 11.

“We love the camaraderie of the craft beer scene in Ontario, and the friends we have made along this journey. We’re happy to call Lon one of them, and extra-happy we have this tasty collaborative beer to show for it,” says Beau’s brewmaster Matthew O’Hara.

Porter beer originated in London as a beer style that attempted to bring together some of the best qualities of the favourite local beers, which made it an appropriate style for Beau’s and Big Rig to brew together. At 5.4% alc./vol., this deliciously dry porter displays rich dark malt character with chocolaty notes augmented by the use of cocoa nibs, and complemented by clean, cool peppermint in the finish.

To celebrate the collaborative release, Beau’s and Big Rig will host an open house this Friday Dec. 12 at Big Rig’s tap room, located onsite at their newly-opened production facility at 103 Schneider Road in Kanata. Weary holiday shoppers are invited to take a break from their bustling and drop by anytime from 4 – 7:30 pm to try a complimentary sample of the new beer, paired with savory seasonal samplings from Beau’s Chef Bruce Wood. Take-home recipe cards from Chef Bruce will also be available. Fans of the Peppermint Porter will be able to place an order for it with Ottawa’s BYBO (www.bybo.ca) during the open house, for home delivery early the next week.

The Ontario Craft Brewers Association (OCB) will also be releasing a podcast this week featuring O’Hara and Ladell chatting about the collaboration (and the Eastern Ontario craft beer scene) with beer expert and Master Ciccerone Mirella Amato. The podcast will be available toward the end of this week at the OCB’s website:www.ontariocraftbrewers.com.

Beau’s + Big Rig’s Peppermint Porter will be available beginning Dec. 11 directly from Beau’s All Natural’s retail store, in 600 ml bottles for $7.85.
